Murudeshwara is a town in Bhatkal Taluk of Uttara Kannada distict. Murdeshwar is another name of the Hindu god Shiva. This temple boasts of the second highest statue of Lord Shiva in the world, the town lies on the coast of the Arabian Sea and is also famous for the Murdeshwar Temple. The main temple's entrance, also called the 'Raja gopura' stands at 123 feet, a lift has been installed within the temple by the authorities so that it’s easier for the tourists and pilgrims to reach the Raja gopura to get an excellent view of the massive Shiva statue from the top.

Murdeshwar has a railway station on the Mangalore-Mumbai Konkan railway route.
